Rockwell frontman Don Cherry has apologised for an insensitive tweet in which he labelled the music of the rock band Warren Ellis “dumb”, claiming he had been “slightly drunk”.
Speaking on Sunday morning on Italian radio station RAI, Cherry was asked by host Stefano Gavazzi about the reaction of some of his fans to the singer’s comments, and replied that he had not meant to offend anyone.
“I’m not sorry, it was a bit drunk, but I am sorry that I caused a bit of trouble for myself and for my family,” he said.
“And for the fans, I hope they are able to understand that I’m sorry.”
He continued: “I’m very sorry for the upset I caused them.
I hope that they can forgive me for that.
It’s not that I think it’s right to use words like that, but you know that sometimes you have to get a bit more professional, and this is what I’ve learnt over the years.”
We need to talk more about these issues, and that’s what I want to do.
“Earlier in the interview, Cherry had described Warren as a “great band” and had referred to his ex-wife as “a beautiful girl”.
The singer also expressed his support for the singer who has been in jail since the murder of singer and rock star Peter Warren in October last year, saying that the death of the “pretty girl” would “make us feel really good”.”
Cherry is due to appear in court again on Tuesday morning.”
It will make us feel very happy, but he’ll make us sad.”
